HowlUp
HowlUp
Just Wolves Howling
Here, you're just another lone wolf. Meaning nobody trusts you.
A microblog where wolves like that roam, with zero damn clue why it even exists.
What Can You Even Do Here?
Howl
It's literally just what other apps call a post.
Reply
If someone howls, you can howl back with a reply. But you can't reply to a reply. Replying to replies is a pain in the ass, and they're almost always totally pointless.
What if someone asks a question? Replies to your own post get pinned to the top, so just answer right there. That's because if someone's asking, everyone else is curious too.
Images
You can post images alongside text. But this place is text-first, so images show up as tiny thumbnails. Huge images hog all the attention, and let's be real—nobody gives a damn about some stranger's breakfast anyway, right?

Hey, take a look at this post. The image is displayed small, right? Click on it to make it bigger.
Long Text
You can drop in long text just as casually as slapping on an image.
Posts with Links
The link's title and description get fetched and shown, but preview images don't. Having those giant previews clutter the feed and steal the spotlight is just annoying.
ReHowl
You can repost or quote, like on other apps. When you find a good post, of course you want to tell someone. But doing that won't pump any numbers. That's what Likes are for. Spreading hollow crap just to cheer someone on is borderline harassment.
Timeline
The timeline just dumps posts from people you follow in chronological order. That's it.
Like Button
There's a Like button, but you can downvote too. Aggressive, shitty posts will just end up in the negatives.
Bookmarks
Bookmarks are for saving posts. Likes won't save shit. If Likes doubled as bookmarks, you'd end up hesitating: 'It's a good post, but not worth saving,' wouldn't you? One feature, one purpose. That's the rule here.
Packs
You can create groups. But this isn't just a place for wolves to huddle. It means when you start a new game, you don't have to go make a whole new dedicated account.
How Packs Work
You can start a pack and post from it. On the timeline, the pack's name sits right above the post.
Sample team

@sample01
You see the name of the pack written at the top, right? When that appears on the timeline, you can tell it's a post from the pack.
Join a pack for a hobby you're into, and post about it from there. The upside is that anyone not interested can just mute that specific pack. Meaning people only hide posts from topics they don't give a damn about. That way, you don't have to mute a friend just because their hobbies are garbage, right?
While groups on most social feeds are locked away, pack posts hit the open timeline, so you can stumble onto interesting packs straight through their posts.
Roles
You can set roles inside a pack. Roles get permissions, letting members handle tasks like posting, replying, or deleting posts.
A Pack of One Is Totally Fine
Most community features force admins to hustle endlessly to recruit people—a brutal grind where everything dies the second you slack off. But with Packs, even if you're the sole member, your posts are just tagged with the pack name. What you do doesn't change one bit even if members join.
Say you start building a rocket and create a pack with whatever name you picked for it—that's a pack of one. Post dev logs from there, and someone might get curious and jump in.
Blog
When howling, you can choose "Blog." Blogs show up right on the timeline.
Real-Time Posting
You can spin up a blog and keep adding updates over time, just like firing off quick posts on a feed.
Say you want to write a travel blog: once you drag yourself home, you're wiped out and forgot all the details. With this blog feature, you can build it live on the spot. And unlike regular posts, your trip won't choke everyone's timeline.
No Drafts
No drafts might sound like a pain. But look at it from the reader's perspective: if they can't tell if a post is finished or when it'll ever update, they'll check it once and never come back.
Here, there are zero drafts. Unfinished blogs are stamped with a clear "In Progress." Readers know it's actively developing, giving them an actual reason to follow the creator.
Track
You can track a specific blog. When a tracked blog updates, it shoots straight to the top of your timeline.
Search
Standard search works, and you can slap on a "-" to exclude words.
Replies never show up in search results. Usernames don't either.
Level Up
Your level sits front and center on your profile. When follower counts are the standard, everyone acts like clones doing the same crap just to farm followers, right? Here, you can hit level-up conditions in all kinds of ways.
You level up manually from your profile once a week. If you'd rather stay at Level 1 forever, that's totally fine too.
Let's Be Real About AI
AI is a handy tool. But it has a glaring problem: not its quality, but its power to vomit out posts in massive volume. This doesn't just go for AI—it applies to cash-grab ads and scummy spam too.
On HowlUp, though, none of that garbage can overrun the feed. That's what the point system is for.
How Points Work
Points Are Handed Out Daily
You can claim 30 pts daily. Don't use them, and you can hoard up to 100. There is literally no other way to get points.
You only get points when you actually visit the site.
What You Can Do with Points
Post with image: +20 pt
Post with long text: +10 pt
Post with link: +20 pt
Does that restriction look strict? You still get three posts a day. For normal people, that's plenty. Slapping on links or images burns through points fast, but think about it: nobody makes decent web pages or graphics easily. The only ones pumping them out in huge volumes every day are AIs or affiliate grifters.
If you want to post a ton, use the blog. Blogs let you drop in multiple images, too. And you won't be annoying everyone on the timeline.
Pack Points
Join a pack, and you get daily points that only work in that pack.
If you post using Pack Points, only people inside the pack can see it. Spend regular points from a pack, and it'll show up on the timeline and search.
Frankly, Equality Matters
Why keep images tiny, charge points, clamp down on extreme ragebait, and kill replies to replies? Because all that crap strips away equality between posts. When posts roll out in a feed, eyeballs naturally lock onto whatever screams the loudest. But posts made just to stand out rarely have any actual substance.
Don't You Dare Enter Personal Info
There are zero fields for personal info. We seriously don't want it, so don't post anything that could trace back to who you are.
Hope Tomorrow Sucks a Little Less
This is 100% a solo project. The site is built with Laravel, and since AI still sucks at Laravel, it's hammered out by hand. Not bragging about it. I know other sites out there are probably way better.
So what am I even trying to say? Honestly, I don't even know myself.
